Summer Graduation
Graduation
It's time to get ready for the BIG DAY and this is where you'll find the information needed to plan for Summer Commencement, Saturday, August 18, 2012. The completion of your education is a significant event and you should be proud of obtaining your goals. We sincerely hope that everyone supporting you enjoys this exciting day and shares in your accomplishments.
Application for Summer Graduation
Undergraduates must apply for graduation through the Registrar's office by July 20, 2012 for their name to appear in the summer Commencement Program. Students may walk in the ceremony even if they do not complete their graduation requirements; however, their name will not appear in the program until all requirements are met and they have applied for graduation and been accepted through the Registrar's Office.
Ceremony Information
Summer Commencement is 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 18, on the Memorial Quad. It is open to the public and friends and families are welcome to attend. Tickets are not needed. The ceremony will last until approximately 11:30 A.M. Students may participate in the ceremony whether or not you are graduating this term. If you have not filed for a degree, your name will not appear in the program but will still be called during the ceremony.
Where to Meet and What to Do
Candidates should assemble at the north end of the Memorial Quad no later than 9:30 A.M. Signs will direct you to the designated area. Cards with your name (and adviser's name if a doctoral candidate) are handed out in the assembly area. Make sure you have a card before the procession begins.
Degree candidates will line up according to degree earned (all bachelor's candidates, all master's candidates, all Ph.D. candidates). Each group of candidates has a faculty marshal who will lead them to the appropriate seating area. Please remain standing until the Provost asks you to be seated.
During the degree-conferring ceremony, each group of candidates (bachelor's master's, doctoral) rises when identified and receives the conferral statement as a group. When directed, walk to the platform in single file, present your name card to the reader, shake hands with the President, receive your diploma cover, return to your seat, and be seated.
At the end of the ceremony, the Platform Party will exit first, followed by the graduates. Your guests can meet you outside the seating area.
