Bias Response Team
The University of Oregon Bias Response Team (BRT), based out of the Office of the Dean of Students, works to gather information about bias incidents and to support those who unfortunately have witnessed, or themselves become a target, of an act of bias.
The fundamental role of the Bias Response Team (BRT) is to provide targets of bias a safe space to have their voices heard, to promote civility and respect, to effect change around these important issues in a quick and effective manner, and to ensure a comprehensive response to bias incidents. Bias is any physical, spoken or written act that is offensive or discriminatory against any individual or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental (dis)ability, political or religious ideology, socio-economic status, size, age or any other marginalized identity or characteristic.
Any member of University of Oregon’s community can report a bias incident to the BRT “for action” or “for information only”. With the gathered information, the BRT keeps track of the campus climate, and we respond to any reporters who indicate they would like us to take action. The BRT also provides educational programming and campus presentations to empower our community to combat bias. If you are interested in having a program or presentation, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
